Breathwork is one of the simplest and most powerful tools we have to support the nervous system. It doesn’t require experience, flexibility, or a particular mindset — just a willingness to pause and breathe.
At Mrs Peony, breathwork is offered as a gentle, grounding group practice, designed to help you slow down, regulate your nervous system, and reconnect with yourself in a safe and supportive space.
What Is Breathwork?
Breathwork is a practice that uses conscious breathing to support physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
In these sessions, we work primarily with pranayama-based breathwork, focusing on steady, intentional breathing patterns that calm the nervous system rather than overstimulate it.
From January, sessions will also include a simple Qigong-inspired warm-up, helping the body soften and settle before we begin breathing. This is not a performance or fitness practice — it’s simply a way to arrive in the body.
Why Breathwork Is So Beneficial
Our breath is directly connected to our nervous system. When we breathe slowly and consciously, the body receives a signal that it is safe to rest.
Over time, regular breathwork can support:
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- A calmer, clearer mind
- Improved emotional regulation
- Better sleep
- A deeper sense of presence in the body
Many people notice that with consistent practice, their thoughts quieten more easily and they feel less overwhelmed by everyday life.
Why Practise Breathwork Weekly?
Just like any supportive practice, breathwork works best when it’s regular.
Attending breathwork once a week creates a rhythm of regulation — a consistent pause in your week where the nervous system can reset. Over time, this helps the body learn how to return to calm more easily, even outside of sessions.
Each month at Mrs Peony, breathwork sessions follow a gentle theme, allowing us to explore different aspects of regulation, grounding, or embodiment without pressure or intensity.
The Group Experience
Breathwork is offered in a small group setting, which many people find deeply reassuring. There is no expectation to share, perform, or explain anything.
The group space is warm, welcoming, and held with care. You are free to rest, breathe, and simply be as you are.
